Biggest Sporting Events Going on This Holiday Season

Happy Holidays

Halloween has come and gone, which means that we have officially entered the holiday season. Between Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, we have a full docket of holidays to prepare for, and they are approaching rapidly.

Lots of holidays mean lots of family parties and huge feasts, but it also means lots of down time. Work will shut down for a few days around the holidays. If you are anything like us, if you’re not at Aunt Edith’s house stuffing your face with turkey and pumpkin pie, you will likely be parked in front of the TV flipping through the channels while you recover from your food coma.

In the interest of keeping our amazing Post Falls community entertained, we here at Knudtsen Chevrolet, your trusted Chevy dealer near Spokane, have put together this list of some of the top sporting events that will be showing around the holidays. Just because we don’t have a pro sports team here in Idaho, doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy watching the highest level of competition right?

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Sporting Events

Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 24th this year, and there is no shortage of entertainment available for your post-meal viewing pleasure. Kick the morning off with the NFL Minnesota Vikings vs. the Detroit Lions, and don’t miss the 4:30 LSU vs. Texas A&M game that looks to have major bowl game ramifications.

Lastly, while the wife and kids are out looking for the hottest sales on Black Friday, catch your local WHL team the Spokane Chiefs face off against the rivaled Vancouver Giants. They will be auctioning off game-worn jerseys in between periods, so this is one game you will not want to miss.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Detroit Lions – November 24, 9:30 AM PST

LSU Tigers vs. Texas A&M Aggies – November 24, 4:30 PM PST

Spokane Chiefs vs. Vancouver Giants – November 25, 7:30 PST

Christmas

Christmas Season Sporting Events

Christmas morning is one of the most exciting moments of a young person’s life. Every year they stay up late, anxiously listening for Santa and his reindeer to stop at their house. They wake up bright and early in the morning to find a giant stack of presents just waiting to be unwrapped. They tear through the pile, rejoice for their many gifts, then disappear to their game rooms and play with their gifts for the rest of the day.

This is the perfect opportunity for mom and dad to take a well-deserved break from all of the planning, cleaning, buying and wrapping and enjoy some quiet time enjoying the games. This year Christmas falls on a Sunday, so there will be NFL games as well as the annual NBA Christmas day games for even more sports fun!

Arizona Cardinals vs. Seattle Seahawks – December 24, 1:25 PM PST

Golden State Warriors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers – December 25, 11:30 AM PST

Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs – December 25, 5:30 PM PST

New Years

Sporting events on New Year's Eve

New Year’s Eve is always an eventful evening, whether sports are involved or not. This year sports lovers get a special treat as the college football playoff’s first leg starts on New Year’s Eve. Both play-in games, the Peach Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl, will be played on December 31st, kicking off the New Year right.

Our New Year’s resolution for 2017 is to watch more hockey, so we will be tuning into the NHL winter classic between one of the best rivalries in NHL history, the St. Louis Blues and the Chicago Blackhawks on January 2nd. It is one of the only NHL games that will be played outdoors, so make sure to tune in for this historic game while you recover from a crazy holiday season.

Peach Bowl – December 31 Time TBA

Fiesta Bowl – December 31 Time TBA

St. Louis Blues vs. Chicago Blackhawks Winter Classic – January 2 10:00 AM PST
